Urban Playground

Where have I been you ask?  AT THE EFFIN' GYM!!

entire outfit: H&M

Due to the fact that its short skirt/tank top/bikini time (yes, I WILL have reason to be in a bikini in about a month.....more on that later),  I decided I needed to whip my ass into shape.  I discovered a bootcamp-style gym a block away from my condo called "Urban Playground" and joined 2 weeks ago.  Let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions Ive ever made!  Heres why Urban Playground is FierceWithAHighWaist reccommended:

1. The facilities are spotless (translate: dont reek of sweat), and very modern.

2. the classes are small - no more than 8 people at a time.

3. they offer an amazing variety of workout styles including kettlebells, pilates, interval training, total body conditioning & yoga (to name a few.)

4.  Its ALL CLASSES.  No machinery or equipment.  Just free weights, mats, and an instructor.  But dont get it twisted: this aint a low-impact "Curves" style workout.  I look like I just stepped out of a shower after every class.

5.  Its female owned & operated.  Sistas be doin it for themselves.

6. The best part: NO MALES ALLOWED!  Its a womans-only gym; meaning I can be free to wear whatever the hell I want & not worry about some creep trying to chat me up.

Its ridiculously expensive, 3 months is about the price of a pair of Gucci sandals, but its definitely worth it.  I knew it was the place for me when I told one of the instructors, "I want to generally tone up, but I still want my ass to be really round."  She smiled & replied, "Dont worry, bubble butts are one of our specialties."

Goin Back To Cali

2 pieces of  insanely good news:

1. The weather is nice enough for me to start walking to work everyday.
2. I officially did NOT need a jacket this morning.

cardi: Urban Outfitters (Im completely obsessed with this colour)
trousers: Aritzia
blouse: H&M
cutout broges: Urban Outfitters

On a completely unrelated note: i love a good sandwich.  Tasty, portable.....whats not to like??  Especially if it comes with dipping sauce and is so big you work every cheek/jaw muscle to shove into your mouth.

Enter California Sandwiches (or "sandwichs" as theyve adorably mispelled):

They are best known for their veal parm sandwiches, but Im not a huge veal fan, so I opted for their breaded chicken.  The BF got the meatball sandwich:

My breaded chicken sandwich was absolutly TO DIE FOR.  The chicken was cooked, or should I say fried, to perfection and the sauteed mushrooms really added flavour & texture.  I chose not to get cheese because I thought it would have made the already heavy sandwich a bit too much.  The kaiser bun was fluffy, fresh & white.....with zero nutritional value but oh-so-damn-good:

I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the meatball sandwich.  I think they used too many breadcrumbs in the meatballs - they were a bit spongey and could have used a bit more seasoning:

Please note that the cherry-on-the-sandwich-sundae is THE SAUCE.  Its basically sugo (Italian marinara sauce) but a bit more watery; perfect for dunking a hearty sandwich into.  No matter what you order from California Sandwiches, you MUST get the dipping sauce.  Its spicy, salty, and incredibly flavourful.  My mouth waters just thinking about it......*drool*

Nonna would DEFINITELY approve.

Puss In Boots

Mother Nature has been PMSing something awful lately in Toronto.  Its been rainy, grey, chilly & all-round miserable.  Im hesitant to even use the word "spring."  But even tho the weather has been total bullshit, its the perfect time of year to wear a short dress/skirt with boots......with NO TIGHTS.  Our winters are so brutal that a girl cant even fathom leaving the house without tights or leggings. Our summers are way too hot to even consider boots.  May brings us the perfect opportunity to bust out all our short skirts & dresses while still allowing us the comfort, warmth, and style of boots.  Its the perfect hybrid of summer and winter!

Exhibit A:

boots: Miss Sixty

Take your legs out of hiberation ladies, because after a long winter, NOTHING feels better than a spring breeze against bare skin.

Long Live The King

When that giant brick wall came crashing down onto Yonge & Gould Street, I suffered a dual loss:  Salad King & Urban Behaviour (shut up - they have great jeans.)

UB never recovered, but Hallelujah!!  Salad King rose from the ashes!! I went with the human garbage disposal I call my boyfriend last night, and it was a relief to see the place looking so good.  Same great food, same great portions, same great prices, all in freshly renovated digs:

When the menu and placemat are one in the same, you know its gonna be good:

Coconut water - my favourite!

Their spring rolls are to die; it almost tastes like theyve fried donuts in the oil then fried the spring rolls:

Mango salad; gorgeous with the cilantro:

He got the Golden Curry Chicken......

I got the Siam Noodles.....

All that food for under 40 bucks:

Salad King is also known for its "Spicy Scale" - a numerical ranking system for how spicy you want your food.  A zero would be no spice, a 20 would be so hot you cant even taste the food.  Im comfortable around a 2.

Im still trying to figure out the name "Salad King" tho.......considering they only have 2 salads on the menu......
