Theres nothing better than a warm breeze against bare skin, so when summer arrives I pretty much live in dresses, skirts & shorts. But once in a while, summer pants can be a really chic & comfy alternative. Especially on days you dont feel like shaving your legs........
A few friendly suggestions for summer pants:
1. Choose cotton or cotton blend fabrics. Wool or 100% polyester will suffocate you.
2. Keep it summery by wearing open toe sandals.
3. Crop dat shit - roll up your pant legs to show some ankle (unless youre wearing wide-legs)
4. Dont be afraid to wear light coloured bottoms - summer is the perfect opportunity for this.
5. Show a flash of skin somewhere else. Flaunt bare arms in a tank top, or a yummy little slice of tummy in a crop-top.
and finally.........
6. Always, always, always wear your pants HIGH-WAISTED!!

Blue Suede Shoes
.....ok so technically they're not suede, theyre canvas. But that doesnt change the fact that my new sandals are SUPERGORGE!!
Ive obsessively worn them 3 days in a row now, & I love the fun, bright, unexpected pop of colour they add to any outfit.......
.......not to mention they look wicked with a tan! But then again......WHAT DOESN'T?

Summery Summary
In the summertime, my social life takes a 180 degree turn. During Toronto's brutal winters, I want nothing more than to get home early, eat something carby and/or creamy, put on my jammie-jams and watch TV till I drift off to sleep around 9:30pm. But this time of year, the combination of extra daylight, Vitamin D, and warm temperatures makes me want to be active and social. Although I must admit, Im still not sure Im more excited about getting out there OR having the chance to wear a vast variety of summer outfits!!
On that note, heres a summery summary of a few of my fave outfits thus far:

SADE
I saw the goddess, the legend, SADE in concert last night.........
Heres what I wore:
According to Wikipedia, shes 52, but girlfriend hasnt appeared to age physically nor vocally. Her signature feminine yet husky voice soared through all the classics, including my favourite "The Sweetest Taboo ." My only complaint (besides the fact that I wore heels like a dumbass) was that I wouldve preferred to see her in a more intimate setting. The ACC is HUGE, and while the music was amazing, the actual performance/visual aspect of the concert wouldve been better suited to a venue like Massey Hall.
Still gorgeous with those classic red lips & massive hoops....... |
John Legend opened for her with a tight 1 hour set. My God, can that man ever sing...not to mention tickle the ivories like nobody's business!! I was reminded of how many of his songs I love......and it was all kinds of awesome when he opened his set with a rendition of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" with nothing but his voice, his backup singers and percussion.
Heres what I wore:
I shouldve had more sense than to wear heels to a concert, but my love for this new navy blue pleated midi skirt clouded my judgement. Flats + midi length + curvy bod = DISASTER.

The Butterfly Effect
The beautiful butterfly pattern on my dress reminded me of one of my favourite chaos theories:
".........the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions; where a small change at one place in a nonlinear system can result in large differences to a later state. For example, the presence or absence of a butterfly flapping its wings could lead to creation or absence of a hurricane."
- from "Wikipedia"
The Butterfly Effect is most familiar in terms of weather, but what if we applied it to our everyday lives? What if everyone made one small positive change everyday? Nothing big, just something comparable to a butterfly wing flap.....
What if, in turn, the outcome was comparable to a hurricane?? A powerful surge in positive energy that surrounds all of us and makes the impossible possible before our very eyes........
WHAT IF?
