Back to Snacks I Have Known....BORICUA STYLE:
In case youre confused, BORICUA refers to someone who was born and/or raised as a Puerto Rican. For further explanation, please refer to Big Pun & Joe's song "Still Not A Playa." Note the ending where they sing "Boricua....Morena", Boricua meaning Puerto Rican, Morena meaning a dark skinned/hair/eyed female....usually of Hispanic descent....but I think in the song they chanted it to sybolize the harmonious unity of Black & Latinos. THE MORE YOU KNOW!!!!
La Muralla Restaurant-the owner lived on top (check out his laundry & dog on the roof) |
Rice & "Pink" Beans with a side of fried chicken......INHALED this shit after a long hike....
Fresh Coconut Water...they often sell these on the beach too. Snacks I Have Known tip: after all the juice is gone, ask someone to hack it open with a machete for you....there is delicious coconut meat & pulp inside that shouldnt be wasted.....
Shrimp Taco.....needed less batter, more shrimp.......but my nails are looking FIERCE......
Pananutres aka Bread Fruit Chips. Bread Fruit is similar to potato, but with a lot less flavour...these chips tasted like stale Baked Lays.....superyuck.
Coconut Lollipop - hands down THE BEST lollipop I have ever tried. It was made with coconut cream & had actual chunks of toasted coconut in it. SUPERYUM!
Coconut Ice on the beach.....can you tell Im a coconut fan??
Keebler Toast & Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers. Ive only tried the Ritz Cracker version of these....Ive never seen the Keebler ones in Toronto. I prefer the Ritz....Keebler didnt come close to replicating the buttery texture of a Ritz cracker. A lovely couple from Dallas (where Keebler stuff is made) gave me this packet after I let out my trademark embarassingly-loud-high-pitched squeal: "IM HUNGEEEEEEE!!!!!"
As you can see, I take snacking VERY VERY seriously. This was proved earlier last week when I was literally stopped in my tracks by the sight of the NEW Balsamic & Basil flavoured Triscuits. They were sitting on my co-workers desk. As I devoured some & gabbed nonstop about them, my coworker deadpanned, "Wow.....Ive never met anyone who was so into Triscuit crackers."
